Duane L. Paulson is a member of the firm’s Real Estate Law and Commercial Real Estate Lending practice areas. His practice focuses on real estate law, including finance, development, sale and acquisition; security instrument sales, purchases and servicing; financial institution and mortgage lending investment regulations; remedies and restructuring. He represents financial institutions in the development, financing, purchase and sales of commercial real estate, sales and purchases of portfolios of both commercial and residential loans, including participation arrangements, and in the exercise of remedies and restructuring.
Duane has represented several major national financial institutions in the financing of a broad range of property types including retail, industrial, office, hotel, hospital, multi-family and multi-use projects, involving multi-state transactions, complex ownership, including syndicated tenants in common arrangements, and structures, including leasehold, condominium, cooperative and time-share interests. He represented a major national financial institution in land acquisition, tax increment and both construction and permanent loan financing, construction and leasing of a 22-story 500,000 square foot office building in a major metropolitan area. He has advised clients in working with distressed real estate on a national basis and acted in their behalf in restructuring loans and in exercising remedies and in operating and disposing of real estate acquired as a result. He participated in an industry task force resulting in a major revision of the statutes governing the investments of life and casualty insurance companies.
A former member of City of Brooklyn Park Charter Commission, Duane has also served on the Board of a non-profit organization, Family Networks. He offers pro bono services to Rebuild Resources, Inc. Duane is a Captain in the United States Naval Reserves, Retired.
